Hampshire County Youth Band Association

Hampshire County Youth Band Association

The HCYB Association is a charitable organisation (No 297707) that supports the three bands in the HCYB pyramid by funding essential equipment, sheet music, room hire, van hire, tutors, instrument purchase and repairs, tours and tour clothing.

This support enables the extended musical education of approximately 150 members of the bands.

The Association also facilitates the smooth operation of rehearsals and events with help to setting up and down rehearsal rooms, concert stages, transporting equipment from store to venue and back and accompanying the bands on residential weekends and tours.

The committee meet 6 times a year during Saturday rehearsals at Perins.  We are always looking for new members, although you don’t need to be a committee member to help out. There are always jobs that can be done that make a real difference. Your help will always be appreciated.

Members of the HCYBA are usually found in the refreshment room at Perins each Saturday during rehearsals. Alternatively you may send emails to: chairmanhcyba@gmail.com (this email is accessed by the Secretary).

Vacancies 2021

With the departure of several county band members at the end of this academic year, sadly we shall lose some experienced committee members in the Autumn. It would therefore be prudent for potential incoming committee members to put themselves forward now to shadow the outgoing members. We anticipate vacancies for the following roles:

Treasurer – ideally suited to someone with experience of accountancy

Secretary – this role requires knowledge of MS Office and Google tools and some administrative skills

Website/social media – Some web and Google experience but no coding required. Website in WordPress.

Please email expressions of interest to chairmanhcyba@gmail.com

HCYB Association Contributions

For essential funds we rely on parents contributing to our voluntary membership scheme, set at £50 per family per year, which most families feel able to do.  We hope as many of you as possible feel willing and able to contribute. The money can be paid in one £50 payment, or termly in 1 x £20 and 2 x £15 instalments. Direct Debit is available.  Please contact the Treasurer, Lee Farley for further information.  If you are a tax payer, please take a couple of minutes to complete the “Gift Aid” section which enables us to claim a further 25% of tax back from the government, giving the Association valuable extra income at no extra cost to you!

Helping with refreshments at rehearsals

By helping with refreshments you give band members the opportunity to socialise together in break time while raising funds for instruments, equipment, tours and much more. It can be fun and lead to lasting friendships. For safeguarding volunteers must be parents/carers of band members.

We use an online rota and reminder tool to organise our refreshment volunteering.  It’s called SignUp and works in 3 easy steps:

1) Click this 2021/22 updated link to see our SignUp page https://signup.com/go/sviddKk

2) Review the options listed and choose the spot(s) you like.

3) Sign up! It’s easy – you will NOT need to register an account or keep a password on SignUp and it does not share your email address with anyone.

Please share this link with other band parent friends and encourage them to join you so that we spread the workload and so it doesn’t always fall to the same kind hearts: https://signup.com/go/sviddKk

Concert tickets

Concert tickets are available in the refreshments room at Perins during Saturday rehearsals.  For a few performances, tickets are only available from the venue.  Details are always sent via email and published on this website.

Hampshire County Youth Band Association

The HCYB Association is a charitable organisation supporting the three county youth brass ensembles by supporting and funding equipment, music, function room hire, coach and van hire, instrument purchase and repair, tutors and fees, tours and clothing.

The bands provide extended musical and social opportunity to approximately 160 young brass players across Hampshire.

Playing in an ensemble benefits children in many ways; they learn to co-operate and contribute responsibly as part of a team; hard work is rewarded by collective output and social engagement. The children also learn to share their music with the wider world at concerts both in the UK and abroad.

HCYBA Annual General Meeting

Please find below links to download the agenda, minutes from the last AGM and a committee nominations form, if you should wish to nominate someone. All current committee members have stated that they are happy to remain in role for the upcoming year, subject to re-election. In the interests of smooth succession, shadowing experienced members is welcomed and encouraged. The Committee is re-elected every year at the AGM, usually in the second week of November during Saturday morning rehearsal.

Everyone is welcome to attend to find out what the Association does to support the three bands.
